The bus from PIMS to Gulberg — officially called the Blue Line metro — is the direct public link between central Islamabad and the city’s southern housing societies. It starts at PIMS Hospital, a major interchange shared with the Red and Green Lines, and runs about 20 kilometres down the Islamabad Expressway corridor to Gulberg. Modern air-conditioned buses run all day long, making this the cheapest comfortable way for office workers, students and hospital visitors to travel south.
Blue Line Stations from PIMS to Gulberg
Traveling south from PIMS, the bus serves around 13 stations: G-7/G-8, H-8, I-8, Sohan, Dhoke Kala Khan, Iqbal Town, Kuri Road, Zia Masjid, Khanna Pul, Fazaia, Gangal, Koral and Gulberg. Well-known landmarks along the way include Khanna Pul, Shakarparian and Parade Ground. Station names are updated from time to time, so it is always wise to glance at the electronic board inside the bus or check the route in Google Maps before you board.
The whole journey takes roughly 30 to 40 minutes end to end, depending on traffic. Unlike the Red Line, the Blue Line does not run on a dedicated track — it moves in normal traffic along the Expressway, so peak-hour rush can add a few minutes. The upside is that stops are frequent and well placed, which is why so many commuters in Gulberg, Koral and Khanna use this line every morning.
Timings, Fare and Travel Tips
Buses run every day from about 6:15 in the morning until 10:00 at night, with a bus arriving roughly every 6 minutes during the day. The flat fare is Rs. 100 per ride, which the CDA raised from Rs. 50 in June 2025. You can pay with a single-journey token from the station counter or simply tap your rechargeable T-Cash smart card. Tokens expire within an hour, so buy one only when your bus is close.
At PIMS station you can switch to the Red Line toward Saddar and Rawalpindi or the Green Line toward Bhara Kahu without any hassle. Heading the other way, board at Gulberg or Koral Chowk a little early if you have a timed appointment at PIMS Hospital. During morning and evening office hours the buses fill up fast, so regular commuters save real time with a T-Cash card — it lets you walk past the token counter and straight onto the bus.
